Podiatry

Expert care for foot, ankle and lower-limb problems

Foot and ankle pain can affect far more than your feet. It can make walking uncomfortable, stop you exercising and prevent you from enjoying the activities that matter to you.

At Kendal Physio, our podiatry service provides thorough assessment and individualised treatment for a wide range of foot, ankle and lower-limb problems. Whether you are dealing with a sports injury, a painful toenail, a persistent verruca or a problem with the way you walk or run, we will take the time to understand what is causing your symptoms and help you decide on the right next step.

How Can Podiatry Help?

Podiatry is the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of conditions affecting the feet, ankles and lower limbs. Our service combines musculoskeletal and sports podiatry with treatment for common foot and nail problems.

We can help with:
If you are unsure which appointment is right for you, please call us on 01539 725220 and our reception team will be happy to help.

Musculoskeletal and Sports Podiatry

Our musculoskeletal podiatry service is designed for people experiencing pain or injury involving the foot, ankle or lower limb. This may include walkers, runners, gym users and competitive athletes, as well as anyone whose symptoms are affecting day-to-day mobility.

Your initial appointment allows time for a detailed discussion and physical assessment. Rather than looking only at the painful area, we consider factors such as your movement, strength, biomechanics, footwear, activity levels, training load and individual anatomy.

Where it is clinically helpful, point-of-care diagnostic ultrasound (POCUS) is included as part of the assessment. This can provide additional information about certain muscles, tendons, ligaments, joints and other soft tissues, helping to guide your diagnosis and treatment plan.

Following your assessment, we will explain our findings clearly and agree a personalised plan with you. Treatment may include advice, activity or training-load modification, rehabilitation exercises, footwear recommendations, orthotics or injection therapy where appropriate.

Routine Podiatry Care

Our routine podiatry service helps keep your feet healthy, comfortable and well cared for. We can treat a wide range of common foot problems, including nail care, hard skin and calluses, corns, dry skin and cracked heels.

We can also help with diabetic foot checks, fungal nail and skin infections, blisters and areas of pressure or discomfort.

Whether you have an ongoing foot problem or simply want to keep your feet in good condition, our podiatry team can provide professional advice and treatment tailored to your needs.

Ultrasound-guided injection therapy

For some foot and ankle conditions, a corticosteroid injection may be an appropriate treatment option. Diagnostic ultrasound allows the podiatrist to visualise the area and guide the injection accurately.

An injection will only be recommended following a suitable clinical assessment and when it is considered appropriate for your condition. The benefits, possible risks, alternative options and aftercare will be discussed with you before treatment so that you can make an informed decision.

The injection appointment includes local anaesthetic where appropriate.

Verruca treatment

Verrucae are caused by a viral infection of the skin. Some disappear without treatment, while others can become painful, spread or persist despite self-care.

We will assess the area, confirm whether it is consistent with a verruca and discuss the treatment options most suited to you. Treatment may include conservative care or, for suitable persistent verrucae, verruca needling under local anaesthetic.

Ingrown Toenails and Nail surgery

Persistent ingrowing or painful toenails can make footwear, walking and exercise uncomfortable. When conservative treatment has not resolved the problem, nail surgery may provide a longer-term solution.

The procedure is carried out under local anaesthetic. Your podiatrist will explain the procedure, expected recovery, possible risks and the aftercare required before you decide whether to proceed. The nail-surgery fee includes the necessary dressings and follow-up care.

Orthotics and footwear advice

Orthotics are insoles designed to alter pressure, improve comfort or support the foot during everyday and sporting activities. They may be useful for some people, but they are not necessary for every foot or lower-limb problem.

We will consider your symptoms, activity, footwear and assessment findings before recommending an orthotic. Where appropriate, we can fit an off-the-shelf device and advise you on how to introduce and use it.

The £120 orthotics charge includes the device and fitting. A musculoskeletal podiatry assessment is required before orthotics can be recommended and is charged separately.

I chose Kendal Physio because of the running program they offer after a deluge of calf strains. I was really happy to work with John (an experienced runner himself) who developed a strengthening routine that has helped me return to running with confidence. An all round great experience that I would recommend to anyone.
