Strength & Balance
Our twice-weekly Strength & Balance Classes will help you to ‘Stay Strong & Steady’
Who is This for?
Our 8-week course is for people who:
- Have started to notice a loss of muscle strength.
- Are less steady on their feet or are avoiding situations where their balance might be challenged – eg walking on uneven ground or walking in poor light.
- Might have less experience or confidence lifting weights in a gym environment.
- Want to make a change to their lifestyle to enable them to age well and maintain their independence.
What to Expect
All our classes are run by qualified physiotherapists.
The first session starts with measuring your strength and balance to establish a good baseline. We make sure you feel safe and know how to lift before progressing the difficulty of the balance and strength exercises over an 8-week period.
Each class will consist of lifting skills practice, a circuit of strength, balance and reaction exercises. Easier and harder versions of each exercise will be demonstrated so you can chose to work at your own level and then progress when you are ready.

– After the age of 50, muscle mass decreases at a rate of 1–2% per year. Muscle strength declines by 1.5% between ages 50 and 60 and by 3% thereafter.
– Our balance begins to decline in midlife, starting at about age 50.
– Our risk of dying from Cancer, stroke and heart disease all increase from the age of 60.
– A person’s muscle strength is highly predicative of how independent that individual will be in later life.
– Research has shown a combination of resistance training and aerobic exercise can help to reduce your risk of dying from cardiovascular disease, cancer and other causes by 41-47%.
– The good news is that this loss of muscle mass and reduced ability to balance is not inevitable. Research has shown performing resistance training and balance exercises as little as twice a week can help to maintain your muscle mass and balance.
PUT YOUR TRUST IN US – WE CAN HELP YOU IMPROVE YOUR STRENGTH, REDUCE FALLS AND INCREASE YOUR CHANCES OF LIVING INDEPENDENTLY FOR LONGER.
