Strength & Balance
Our twice-weekly Strength & Balance Classes will help you to ‘Stay Strong & Steady’
Who is This for?
Our 8-week course is for people who:
- Have started to notice a loss of muscle strength.
- Are less steady on their feet or are avoiding situations where their balance might be challenged – eg walking on uneven ground or walking in poor light.
- Might have less experience or confidence lifting weights in a gym environment.
- Want to make a change to their lifestyle to enable them to age well and maintain their independence.
What to Expect
All our classes are run by qualified physiotherapists.
The first session starts with measuring your strength and balance to establish a good baseline. We make sure you feel safe and know how to lift before progressing the difficulty of the balance and strength exercises over an 8-week period.
Each class will consist of lifting skills practice, a circuit of strength, balance and reaction exercises. Easier and harder versions of each exercise will be demonstrated so you can chose to work at your own level and then progress when you are ready.
How Much Does It Cost?
Our Stay Strong, Stay Steady course costs £192 for the whole 8 week course (that’s only £12 per class) giving you amazing value.

– After the age of 50, muscle mass decreases at a rate of 1–2% per year. Muscle strength declines by 1.5% between ages 50 and 60 and by 3% thereafter.
– Our balance begins to decline in midlife, starting at about age 50.
– Our risk of dying from Cancer, stroke and heart disease all increase from the age of 60.
– A person’s muscle strength is highly predicative of how independent that individual will be in later life.
– Research has shown a combination of resistance training and aerobic exercise can help to reduce your risk of dying from cardiovascular disease, cancer and other causes by 41-47%.
– The good news is that this loss of muscle mass and reduced ability to balance is not inevitable. Research has shown performing resistance training and balance exercises as little as twice a week can help to maintain your muscle mass and balance.
PUT YOUR TRUST IN US – WE CAN HELP YOU IMPROVE YOUR STRENGTH, REDUCE FALLS AND INCREASE YOUR CHANCES OF LIVING INDEPENDENTLY FOR LONGER.

Neil BogginJune 10, 2023After a knee injury playing table tennis, the team were excellent at diagnosing the problem & setting up a slow & steady recovery routine - lots of stretching, massage & strength exercises. Am back playing TT & heading back on the hills!!C BJune 7, 2023I went to Kendal Physio after experiencing problems with my thumb and wrist for about 8 weeks. I’d tried rest, You Tube video ‘fixes’ (which made it worse) and then decided it was time to stop wasting time and go to see a physio. Mary was great at pinpointing the problem and setting me up with a series of exercises to do at home. These had a rapid effect and I felt some marked improvement quite quickly, especially as regards pain management. The exercises were adapted and changed with each visit, to ensure a full movement range could be achieved by the end of the course of treatments. I found it particularly useful to have all the exercises sent through on an email that contained short videos of every exercise. Mary is fantastic, really thorough in diagnosing/assessing , and careful to ensure each exercise is clearly understood and carried out before leaving the practice. I absolutely recommend Kendal Physio!Hilary PickupMay 18, 2023Very friendly, caring and helpful centre. My physio diagnosed my problem, gave me some treatment and gave me exercises to follow. It was easy to get follow up appointments. Thank you.Doreen AllenMay 17, 2023As well as attending an excellent Pilates class I have been receiving treatment for a shoulder problem from Sarah Yeates.
